On 7 February, The Grenville Club made a presentation to George Hicks who is retiring as Team Captain of the snooker "A" team after an unprecedented run of success. The team play in the Birmingham Efficiency snooker league and have been the Premier Division champions for 12 consecutive seasons, doing the league and cup double on eight occasions as well.
Pictured from left to right are Maurice Chapman, Andy Brett, Garry Ford, Mark Lightning, Paul-Dukes Thomas, George Hicks and Martin Quinney.
The Club President, Mike Jennings (on the right in the photograph) presented George with a commemorative plaque which will be displayed in the club to become a part of its long history. Paul Dukes-Thomas made an excellent and amusing speech about incidents and memories over those years and presented George with a cut glass decanter from the players as a memento of their time together". George responded with some fine words about what those years of captaincy had meant to him. George's wife Sue Hicks, The President's wife Gill Jennings and many club members enjoyed an evening of food, drink and good company. The night was rounded off with a fun snooker knock-out competition which was won by Paul Dukes-Thomas from Kevin Richards. Paul had the audacity to knock his former captain out in the second round.
